[Name]: Anna
[Canon]: Fire Emblem Awakening
[Age]: 27
[Gender]: Female
[Canon Point]: Epilogue
[History]:
http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Anna
[Personality]:
Anna is perhaps one of the most complicated and yet simple characters in all of Fire Emblem history. Her one greatest and biggest motivation in life? Money. She lives breathes and dies all for the sake of buying, selling, and making a nice little profit. Nearly every single female in her family tree has the same appearance as she does, they are all named Anna, and nearly every last one of them is a merchant. With that kind of upbringing, Anna has been *raised* to believe that money is the most important thing in life, almost the lifeblood of everything that is and will ever be.
Her obsession with money lead itself to forming a rather flirtatious and charismatic individual, always looking for some way to turn a profit and make you happy to come back for more. She'll tease, compliment, or downright try to seduce people on occasion if she thinks it will help sell something, a trait shared by many of her siblings. Evidence of her flirtations are how she always calls Chrom by the name "Handsome" when they speak, and her siblings who run the outrealm hot springs and summer beach resorts love to point out how sexy their prospective buyers look. Most of it is all just a sales pitch, but customer service is a very important part of her job.
While many merchants are so greedy that they are blinded by it, Anna comes from a long line of merchants and thinks in the long term, in a legacy of merchants and economy. Ripping off a customer of all their money is well and good in thee short term, but they're not likely to be a very satisfied customer. Satisfied happy customers help build the economy, giving her more customers, more opportunities, and making her much more trusted in her business dealings. She'll even go so far as to protect people she doesn't know from bandits because it's bad for business, and she cares about their livelihoods.
Still, she can still be short sighted, and she's not typically a charity service. Sometimes her money making schemes do get the better of her, and she's faced with the consequences of trying to turn a quick buck. As evidenced when in Tiki's support, when Tiki threatens to eat her for manipulating her into having people pay to listen to her speak, or when the army's tactician tries an experimental moisturizing cream without realizing it was experimental, and only after she'd been using it for weeks and Anna tried some did Anna break out in a terrible burning rash from the experimental product. Still her motto is when life gives you lemons, sell lemonade... then sell the lemon rinds, plant the lemon seeds, and sell the lemon trees at a later date.
One of the many reasons she is a complex character is because of one of her family secrets. She has effectively the knowledge of every Anna's exploits that have ever been, having been taught from a young age their history through letters passed down through her family. In many respects, each Anna carries on the legacy of all the other Annas of the past, and in turn takes on a part of them inside. The Anna family almost seems like it's actually just one person as a result, but in truth each Anna carries their own adventures and memories that they will be able to pass on one day.
Yet while money is the most important thing in life to Anna, she's still deep down looking for more out of life. Money is most important to her because it's a means to an end, but she actually genuinely enjoys spending time with people, having companionship, living well and enjoying the finer things in life. All of which take money, and the pursuit of eternal happiness by having more money is what makes Anna happy.
[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
Merchant Strengths: Anna has a number of abilities as a merchant, from forging items and weapons, appraising goods, and reading people's expressions and picking up on subtleties to help her make a sale. She knows how to read people to understand what makes them tick, and what some of their weaknesses might be she can use to exploit for selling them something. For example, she'd be able to pick up on the fact that someone is a veteran swordsman and looking for a durable weapon, rather than someone who is a noble and looking for an ornate weapon.
Her siblings and her are the only characters who have been in all the different fire emblem series, and they have access to knowledge outside of their own world. In fact Anna even runs a device in Fire Emblem Awakening known as the outrealm gate that allows players to visit other worlds! It's suggested that our world may be one of the outrealms as well, because a popularity poll had been taken in Japan for which characters were the most popular, and she references this poll as the deciding factor for who won certain grand prizes in one of the downloadable content maps. Her 4th wall knowledge is relatively limited though, and mostly only applies to things that would benefit her or her sisters as merchants.
As a merchant, she carries around quite a satchel of merchandise with her wherever she goes, and quite a bit of gold in her coin purse. Understandably, she might not have all these assets with her when she joins High_Seas.
Merchant Weaknesses: While Anna is a very successful and skillful merchant, she also has the problem of an almost insatiable greed. She's not the sort who would sell out her friends to the enemy for a quick buck, but she's not above sometimes doing dangerous money making schemes that get her into trouble. It also might be possible to use her love of money against her.
Combat Strengths: Anna is a skillful swordswoman in her own right, preferring the subtlety of using a blade in a dexterous, stealthy, and quick manner rather than brute strength. She has the nimble swiftness and skills of a master thief (lockpicking, stealth, etc), even though she absolutely abhors the very notion of stealing. As a merchant, she takes such things very seriously, and would be quick to attack anyone who tried to rob her. The type of sword she most frequently uses is magical in nature, raining down lightning bolts on her enemy from a distance, or up close.
She's also a staff wielder, which allows her to us staves to mend broken bones, and most forms of physical injuries or pain caused in combat. There are also a variety of other staves like those that allow you to heal allies from all the way across a battle field, rescue an ally by teleporting them to you from a distance (also the size of a small battlefield), and helping increase an ally's resistance to magical damage. Many of these staves are rare or expensive, so Anna is not terribly likely to be using most of them very often.
Combat Weaknesses: While speedy and agile, this is in part to make up for the fact that Anna is rather squishy in combat. Her defensive capabilities are rather poor against physical attacks if she is actually hit. While she is skillful with healing staves, her skills aren't quite as powerful as most healers in Fire Emblem since she's more of a jack of all trades.
[Limited Powers]:
Anna does not have the power to jump between worlds in High Seas, nor does she have the power to bring in *any* item from any realm to sell. So you won't see dozens of people going around with someone's signature weapon, but she'll still sell minor things. She also won't have access to an unlimited quantity of gold to buy items either like most FE:A shopkeepers.
[Other Important Facts]:
I would like for Anna to potentially work for Margie at Backwater Brig, if not at some point even replace her if the person who npcs her is tired (not my first choice mind you). Anna has a lot of experience with cross realm trading, and would even work for Davy Jones himself to buy and sell goods to those he drags here. I'd probably need a lot of mod supervision or flexibility in order to do this though, because I'm not completely sure on all the pricing, payment methods, and which goods would be considered to overpowering that I'd feel confident enough to handle this on my own. As it is, I think that the majority of the time money is handled fairly loosely, so it's usually up to people's best judgement on whether or not they can afford certain items. Regardless, working for backwater brig is one of my goals for Anna if at all possible, even if she's forced to ship out from Empieza to be a traveling saleswoman. If not, I'd at the very least like to be able to have her set up shop somehow, since it's such a major part of her character.
